The Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP) supports the“National Secondary School Nutrition Quiz”
On September 28th 2012, in the Belize Biltmore Plaza Hotel took place for the 12thyear in a row, the "National Secondary School Nutrition Quiz". The organizing committee consists of members of the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and the Coordinator of the Technical Cooperation of the Institute of Nutrition of Central America and Panama (INCAP) in Belize. This event was possible thanks of the sponsorship of Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health, UNICEF, Pan American Health Organization and ADM Belize Mills Limited. The objective of the Quiz is to create greater awareness among young people about the importance of healthy eating, to equip young people with skills to enable them to make healthy eating choices, to contribute to the health status of Belizeans through the reduction of chronic diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and cardiovascular diseases, and to strengthen the nutrition programmes in homes, schools and communities.
Seven schools participated in the event, one from each District with the exception of the Belize District that had the participation of two schools. Each team consisted on tree students, a substitute student and a teacher, parent or volunteer that played the role of coach.
Bishop Martin High ended up in first place, San Pedro High School took second place and Belize High School in third place.
The student with most right answers was also awarded, in this case was Angel Navidad from Bishop Martin High of Orange Walk. Congratulations!
